Meet Elena Moliotsias
Meet Elena Moliotsias, Project Designer at Clearspace.
A Journey Shaped by Curiosity and Design
Elena has always been fascinated by the intersection of creativity and function. Though she wanted to become an architect, her career path evolved when she pursued a master’s degree in interior design in Milan. During her co-op there, she discovered how interiors could shape the way people live and feel—an experience that ignited her passion for creating spaces with both purpose and personality.
Today, she thrives in the balance between creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. Each project, for Elena, is an opportunity to bring thoughtful ideas to life in ways that enrich everyday experiences.
Finding Home at Clearspace
After the pandemic, Elena recognized that workplace design was entering a new era. People were rethinking how and where they work, and she wanted to be part of that transformation. Clearspace’s holistic, design-build approach immediately stood out to her—the opportunity to be involved from concept through completion aligned perfectly with her values.
She was also drawn to the culture. Collaboration and care define the Clearspace team, and Elena appreciates being surrounded by people who are as committed to creating spaces that work beautifully as they are to supporting one another.
Thoughtful, Balanced Design
Elena’s design philosophy is rooted in thoughtfulness, authenticity, and balance. She creates spaces that feel natural and intuitive rather than overdesigned.
Her process always begins with understanding the functional and practical needs of a space. From there, she explores creative ways to express those needs through form, texture, and detail. For her, creativity and functionality are inseparable; the most successful spaces are those that look effortless but are built on deep consideration and care.
Two moments in the design process stand out for her: the initial planning stage, where the foundation of the project is laid, and the point when clients see the vision come to life through renderings. Both moments remind her of the power of collaboration and shared imagination.
Inspired by Movement and Everyday Moments
Travel has always been one of Elena’s greatest sources of inspiration. She loves exploring new cities by walking or cycling, taking time to notice the small details that reveal the character of a place—the texture of a wall, the play of light, the way people use space.
Everyday environments inspire her too, from cafés and parks to the subtle interactions that happen in shared spaces. These observations often find their way into her work, influencing how she designs for flow, connection, and comfort.
One project that has been especially meaningful is Clearspace’s new office. Designing for designers, she says, was both challenging and rewarding. The experience encouraged the team to reflect on their own work habits, collaboration styles, and the identity they wanted their space to represent.
Family Roots and Everyday Connection
Elena’s upbringing has played a major role in shaping her design perspective. She was raised in a family of Greek immigrants that blended logic and creativity. Her father is a math teacher, and her mother is an art and English teacher. Their encouragement to work hard while pursuing what makes her happy has guided her throughout her career.
Family time remains central to her life. Elena treasures opportunities that bring loved ones together and encourage everyone to explore their surroundings with curiosity and joy.
Beyond the Studio
When she’s not designing, Elena is often cycling between cities. For her, cycle tourism is a way to travel at a slower, more intentional pace, to take in the details that often go unnoticed.
Spending time outdoors is her favourite way to recharge. Recently, her three-year-old has taken to joining her on night walks. Together, they wander the neighbourhood with flashlights, discovering the small details that make up the urban landscape.
A Love for Laneways and Small Spaces
Elena has a particular fascination with laneways—the in-between spaces of cities where daily life unfolds quietly and authentically. She loves how these narrow passages, often lined with homes or small businesses, reveal the hidden layers of a city.
Her dream project would be to design tiny or laneway homes. She’s inspired by how compact spaces push designers to think more creatively about functionality and the way people live. For her, small spaces represent a meaningful path forward—an opportunity to design homes that are sustainable, efficient, and deeply connected to their surroundings.
At Clearspace, Elena continues to bring this thoughtful, intentional approach to every project—creating spaces that feel good to live and work in, and that reflect the people who inhabit them.
